Moultrie Game Management Sunset FAQ

Verizon 4G LTE Network to Replace Older 3G Network

The Moultrie Mobile MV1 Field Modem currently operates on the Verizon 3G network to deliver images to your Moultrie Mobile app and web account. Verizon is upgrading its network to 4G LTE. In the near future, Verizon will begin turning off its older 3G network, a process known as “sunsetting.” This sunsetting process will not impact the entire country at the same time. The process will occur tower by tower over a period of time.  While Verizon does not currently plan to begin turning off 3G towers until January 2021, Verizon has already put limitations in place that could impact the ability of 3G devices to be activated or re-activated on the 3G network today.

What Does This Mean for Moultrie Mobile MV1 Modems?

Your MV1 3G modem will continue to work through the current Fall to Spring 2019-2020 hunting season. However, after Spring 2020, Moultrie cannot guarantee that you will be able to re-activate any 3G modem after deactivating it for any reason.  Beginning January 2021, we cannot guarantee the reliability of service in your area as Verizon begins turning off 3G towers. We recommend you take advantage of the 4G modem upgrade offer as soon as possible.

When and How Will Moultrie Take Care of Existing 3G Users?

Moultrie Mobile already has new 4G LTE modems in stock in Verizon (MV2) and AT&T (MA2) models. Moultrie Mobile is offering all 3G MV1 Field Modem owners an exclusive offer to upgrade to a new 4G LTE modem for only $20 per modem (offer not to be combined with any other promotions or discounts), plus tax, with free shipping. You can continue operating on the Verizon network by upgrading to the MV2 or choose to upgrade to an MA2 and run on the AT&T network if it offers better coverage in your area.

Do I Have to Send My MV1 Device Back to Moultrie?

No, you can continue to use your MV1 Field modem until Verizon turns off the 3G network in your area.  However, should you deactivate the MV1 3G device for any reason after Spring 2020, you may not be able to re-activate the device. (Or are we using this as an opportunity to start taking devices off the parking lot plan and give us an “out”) You can start using your 4G modem as soon as you receive it. Simply activate your new 4G LTE device through the app or website.
